Gwen John: Strange Beauties
Until the 28th June 2026
Strange Beauties is Gwen John’s first major exhibition in almost 40 years. Considered one of Wales' most remarkable artists, she was arguably overshadowed by her older brother Augustus John, though her work is now held in collections around the world including the Tate, the Musée Rodin in Paris, and the MET in New York. The exhibition touches on her posthumous growth of appreciation and her clearly distinctive view of the world around her, acting as "an invitation — to see the world through Gwen’s eyes — to slow down, look closer and discover the wonder in her work."
Where: National Museum Cardiff.
When: From 7th Febaruary until 28th June 2026.
Tickets: Visit the National Museum Cardiff’s website to book your tickets.
Misfits: Disability as Method Through Objects
Misfits, at the Paul Mellon Centre, explores how ideas about disability have changed since the 1800s through the works by Sarah Biffin, Lorenza Böttner, Jesse Darling, Tony Heaton, Martha Ann Honeywell, Tom Olin, Donald Rodney, Michael Stahlberg and Kurt Weston. At the centre of the display is the concept of the misfit understood "as a condition produced through the interaction between bodies and environments." Included is our most important work by Sarah Biffin: A Study of Feathers, a delicate depiction of feathers painted by Biffin in 1812 and the finest surviving example of her work in this genre.
Where: Paul Mellon Centre, London.
When: From 3rd February until 9 April 2026.
Tickets: Free to all. Visit the Paul Mellon Centre's website to find out more.
