What to see this month | July 2025
Edward Burra

Until 19th October 2025

Edward Burra's (1905-1976) long-awaited retrospective at Tate Britain has now opened. Known for his masterful use of watercolour, Burra transformed the delicate medium into something vivid, expressive, and daring. The exhibition highlights his deep engagement with modern British painting, queer culture, and urban life during the Roaring Twenties.

With more than 80 works on display, visitors can witness how his art captured the rhythm of nightlife, the grit of the streets, and the vibrant underworld through a lens shaped by music, performance, and satire. Burra’s bold, often surreal imagery redefined what British art could be.

Where: Tat Britain, Millbank, London.
