Booking is not required | Free to all

From 7th—11th October 2024, during Frieze Week, we will be displaying at our gallery on Pall Mall Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell's Studies for The Muses of Arts and Sciences. The Studies belong to Philip and Catherine's private collection and will be on public view only briefly before they travel to the MK Gallery for their forthcoming exhibition, Vanessa Bell: A World of Form and Colour.

We will be offering a late evening view of the Studies between 6pm—8pm on Thursday 10th October as part of Frieze's 'West End Night'.

These studies were painted in preparation for the larger panels commissioned by their close friend John Maynard Keynes and sought to represent a symbolic range of the higher artistic and intellectual aspirations of the Bloomsbury Group. The chosen theme was the arts and sciences, and each of the subjects is portrayed with a specific, although in some cases ambiguous, attribute.

Remarkably, despite one having been temporarily separated, these highly significant collaborative studies are now again together as a complete set.
