This catalogue accompanies Miniatures from the Bearsted Collection (19 November – 19 December 2025), an intimate exhibition of eight exceptional Elizabethan and Jacobean portrait miniatures by the master miniaturists Nicholas Hilliard (1547-1619) and Isaac Oliver (c. 1565-1617).
Acquired from the descendants of Viscount Bearsted, one of Britain’s most discerning early twentieth-century collectors, the collection offers an intimate glimpse into the art of limning and the evolution of miniature painting in England.
Produced in collaboration with Dr Elizabeth Goldring, the comprehensive catalogue includes new scholarship and detailed entries on each miniature.
