Woolf Works
An experimental ballet by Wayne McGregor and composed by Max Richther

From 17th January until 13th February 2026

Woolf Works is an experimental ballet choreographed by The Royal Ballet and Opera House resident choreographer Wayne McGregor (the first from a contemporary dance background) and composed by Max Richther. The score uses classical and electronic sounds as well as Virginia Woolf’s voice recordings, and is inspired by three of her works: Mrs Dolloway, Orlando, and The Waves.

Woolf is regarded as one of the most important writers of the 20th century. Born in London in 1882, she was a key figure in the formation of the Bloomsbury Group, which included her sister Vanessa Bell and her husband Leonard Woolf, as well as Duncan Grant, Roger Fry, Lytton Strachey and many others.

Where: The Royal Ballet and Opera House, Convent Garden, London.

When: From 17th January until 13th February 2026

Wright of Derby: From the Shadows

Until 10th May 2026

'Wright of Derby: From the Shadows' at the National Gallery is the first major exhibition dedicated to the British artist’s ‘candlelight’ paintings. With over twenty works, including other paintings, mezzotints, works on paper and objects the exhibition explores both Derby’s artistic practice and the historic context of scientific and artistic development in which they were made.

Throughout the year, the Philip Mould Gallery has handled numerous works by Derby, including his Arkwright’s Cotton Mills by night from 1790s, an iconic landscape depicting one of the most important scenes in British industrial history.
