Don't miss Jessica Dismorr at Pallant House Seeing Each Other: Portraits of Artists, on view until 2 November 2025

August 7, 2025

Our portrait of Catherine Giles by her lifelong friend and artistic peer Jessica Dismorr is on loan at Pallant House's current exhibition, Seeing Each Other: Portrait of Artists, on view until 2 November 2025.

Jessica Dismorr was a pioneering figure in twentieth-century British modernism—a radical Vorticist, an early abstract painter, and a politically engaged artist. This intimate portrait, once misidentified as Ann Ody, is now recognised as depicting Giles. Likely painted in the early 1930s, while Dismorr was living with Giles in her Putney home, the work reflects a period of mutual support and artistic collaboration.

This major exhibition brings together over 150 works spanning 125 years, exploring identity, artistic relationships, and mutual influence in British art. Featuring over 80 artists—including Lucian Freud, Lubaina Himid, David Hockney, and Paula Rego—it offers rare insights into the connections and creative circles that have shaped modern and contemporary art.
