The Artistic Legacy of Boris Anrep

This May, Mottisfont Abbey explores the life and work of Boris Anrep (1883 – 1969). The Exhibition reveals Anrep’s close companionship to his patron and owner of the Abbey, Maud Russell. Russell had a strong artistic milieau surround her at her country estate and the exhibition delves into that wartime haven and climate. The exhibition includes our mosaic by Arep, Spirit of Reasoning, which forms part of the introduction to the artist and is installed in what used to be Anrep's room when he stayed there.
The exhibition also features works by members of the Bloomsbury Group, including, Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry and Duncan Grant as well as portraits by Augustus John.

Seeing Each Other: Portraits of Artists

This exhibition presents over 130 works delving into the dynamic interplay of artistic relationships and inspiration across modern and contemporary British art. The display features paintings, prints, drawings, photography, sculpture, and immersive installations—each revealing the unique connections between renowned artists such as Lucian Freud, David Hockney, Lubaina Himid and Paula Rego.
Through rare portraits and newly commissioned pieces, the exhibition traces the bonds that shaped British art—from the Bloomsbury Group to the Young British Artists—inviting visitors to rediscover these influential circles in a new light.
Masterpieces from Kenwood:
The Splendour of British & French Painting

Masterpieces from Kenwood offers a rare chance to explore Thomas Gainsborough’s legacy alongside his British and European peers. It showcases masterpieces from Kenwood House’s renowned Iveagh Bequest, and some of the highlights include two of Gainsborough's most celebrated portraits, Mary, Countess Howe (c. 1764) and Lady Brisco (c. 1776). The display also features exceptional pieces by Gainsborough’s contemporaries, including Sir Joshua Reynolds, George Romney, Angelica Kauffman, and French masters Jean-Baptiste Pater and François Boucher.
