'The best exhibitions in London for May 2025'
 

"Cedric Morris is someone else whose artistic practice was irrevocably intertwined with his garden – and that garden, at Benton End in Suffolk, is due to open to the public next year. The head gardener, James Horner, who has been restoring the beds and re-planting them, has curated an exhibition at Philip Mould & Company, SW1. Many of the works in the show are paintings of plants that have been reintroduced, including some of the 90 new species of iris that Morris cultivated. But Benton End is just one part of Morris’s fascinating life. Together with his partner Arthur Lett-Haines, he moved between artistic circles in London, Paris, and Newlyn, and they set up the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing that trained, among others, Lucian Freud and Maggi Hambling. Hugh St. Clair has written a rather compelling double biography."
