Hew Locke: What Have We Here?

Opening on 17th October

The exhibition Hew Locke: What have we here? at the British Museum features renowned Guyanese-British artist Hew Locke (b. 1959) as he critically engages with the museum's collection to explore the legacies of British imperialism. His use of interventionist techniques offers a fresh perspective on the museum's ties to imperial power, inviting visitors to reconsider the complex histories behind the objects on display.

Central to the exhibition are Locke's new sculptural works, The Watchers. These figures symbolically watch over visitors and prompting reflection on questions of ownership, identity, and history. By intertwining his personal background with broader imperial legacies, Locke’s exhibition opens up important discussions on the ongoing impacts of colonialism in contemporary cultural institutions.

A must see!

When: From 17th October 2024 until 9th February 2025.

Where: British Museum, London.

Tickets: From £16. Visit the British Museum’s website to book your tickets.

Uncanny Visions: Paula Rego and Francisco de Goya

Until 5th January 2025

Uncanny Visions: Paula Rego and Francisco de Goya explores the thematic and visual parallels between the two artists. Both Goya and Rego evoke unsettling and disconcerting feelings in their works—Goya through the absurdity of social conventions and Rego through the ruthless nature of childhood tales. In addition to the uncanny, the exhibition delves into themes common to both artists, such as absurdity, satire, folklore, humour, violence, and the supernatural.

Supported by the Blavatnik Family Foundation, the Tavolozza Foundation, Victoria Miro and Cristea Roberts Gallery.

When: From 27th September 2024 until 5th January 2025.

Where: The Holburne Museum, Bath.

Tickets: From £5.50. Visit the Holburne Museum's website to book your tickets.
