A sketch of Iris Tree by Augustus John On view at Trois Crayons during London Art Week 2024

June 19, 2024

During London Art Week 2024, our portrait drawing of the rebellious artist and playwright Iris Tree by Augustus John will be on display at Trois Crayons, on No. 9 Cork Street, along with a selection of works on paper presented by LAW members.

John likely executed this portrait around 1919, a few years after meeting Iris Tree at a Thursday soirée thrown by the society hostess Lady Ottoline Morrell. John drew and painted Tree on several occasions, and this informal and evidently personal drawing is a nod to the friendship which developed between artist and sitter.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 28th June until 5th July, from 10am until 6pm.
