Eye to Eye: Sir Henry Raeburn’s Portraits
Until 29th September
From June 29th, the Kirkcudbright Galleries will be holding an exhibition on Scotland’s finest portrait painter Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823). While Raeburn is typically known for his portraits of men, the Kirkcudbright Galleries are showcasing his equally captivating and characterful portraits of women and illustrations of children.
Our portrait of Sarah Wordsworth, later Mrs Robert Hartshorn Barber (c. 1820) and the portrait of Elizabeth Campbell, Marchesa di Spineto (c. 1812), previously with Philip Mould & Company, are on loan in the exhibition. As part of the display, there will also be a screening of a short film recently produced by the Kirkcudbright Galleries featuring Philip Mould in conversation with leading artist Ewan McClure.
You can find all the works by Raeburn that we have had the pleasure to handle across the years in the Philip Mould Picture Archive.
When: From 29th June until 29th September 2024.
Where: Gallery Two, Kirkcudbright Galleries, Scotland.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens
Until 8th September 2024
This June will see the National Portrait Gallery’s first exhibition of historic portraiture since it reopened, an exploration of how the wives of Henry VIII have been represented throughout history. From historic paintings by Hans Holbein the Younger to contemporary photography by Hiroshi Sugimoto, the exhibition draws upon a wealth of materials to present the life, legacy and portrayal of the six women who married Henry VIII and forever altered the landscape of English history.
This exhibition has been curated by Charlotte Bolland and features paintings from across private and public collections, including a portrait of Elizabeth I as a young girl that was rediscovered by Philip Mould. The portrait had previously been considered a copy but the revelation that it was a contemporary production saw a major addition to the iconography of Elizabeth I.

Tickets: From £21 or Pay What You Wish on Saturdays from 17.30 to 21.00 and Sundays from 10.30 to 12.00). Visit the National Portrait Gallery's website to book your tickets.
