Five Questions with... Ellie Smith, Researcher.

PM&Co: When did you begin working at the gallery?

ES: I began working at the gallery nearly three years ago, in 2019.

PM&Co: What drew you to research?

ES: Research appeals to me for many reasons, although the main reason is the continual potential to uncover lost or previously overlooked stories.

PM&Co: What are you most excited for in the next coming months?

ES: Without a doubt, our upcoming exhibition on the artist Sarah Biffin. I am in the midst of writing her biography, which will be published alongside essays from extraordinary scholars and creatives, to coincide with the exhibition opening

PM&Co: What has been your favourite discovery?

ES: The provenance and history of a double portrait by Augustus John - The Sisters. With the kind help of a family member of the artist, who unearthed a photograph of the two unknown sitters, we managed to temporarily reunite the photograph of the sitters with the painting.

PM&Co: What is your main area of interest?

ES: I find that my attention is continually captivated by the work of female artists, particularly those working in the 20th century.
