Five Questions with Philip Mould & Company Gallery Manager & Associate Director, Laura Edmundson
PM&Co: When did you start working at the Gallery?
LE: I started working for Philip in 2016 just after they had opened their new gallery at 18-19 Pall Mall, before this I worked at Sotheby's.
PM&Co: When did you begin your career in the art wordl?
LE: This will show my age but I started my career at Waddesdon Manor as a very lowly assistant to the curatorial team back in 2003 and then moved to Sotheby’s where I was very proud to work for over 12 years in both Bond Street and Geneva. My speciality was actually Jewellery and I am a trained gemmologist so I am delighted we currently have a portrait by Philip de Laszlo of Oonagh Guinness In the gallery showing her exquisite Cartier and Boucheron jewellery from the 1930’s.
PM&Co: You have had experience working in Geneva, how does London compare?
LE: Both art markets are extremely vibrant but Geneva being geographically located in a central time zone was a hub for international clients. I learnt a lot about the financial markets and shipping arrangements through my time in Switzerland.
PM&Co. With such a versatile role, what aspect of gallery management do you enjoy most?
LE: I enjoy the diversity of the job. As a gallery we have a great mix of commercial dealings and academic exhibitions. This allows my role to be both practical through such things as finance and shipping and the more aesthetic such as creating our exhibitions and art fair offerings.
PM&Co: What is your favourite museum exhibition over the past year?
LE: I have been on maternity leave for the past year so have sadly missed many great exhibitions but I did manage to see the Faberge Exhibition at the V&A which was a great triumph.
