Five Questions | Philip Mould & Company Head of Research and Director, Lawrence Hendra

In the second instalment of our series 'Five Questions' Lawrence Hendra discusses his interest in Tudor and Jacobean portraiture along with his most memorable project at Philip Mould & Company.

PM&CO: When did you begin working at Philip Mould & Company?

LH: I started at the gallery in 2011 as a researcher

PM&CO: Tudor and Jacobean portraiture is one of your areas of expertise, what ignited your interest in this?

LH: ‘Lost Faces’  - an exhibition on Tudor royal portraiture staged at this gallery in 2007

PM&Co: What is your favourite publication on this subject?

LH: Tough one. Probably ‘Citizen Portrait’ – it focusses on the patrons of portraiture who lived and worked outside court circles

PM&CO:  What has been your most memorable project whilst at PM&Co?

LH: Editing Divine People: The Art and Life of Ambrose McEvoy (1877-1927) which was published to coincide with our McEvoy exhibition in 2019

PM&CO: What is your advice to anyone wanting to pursue a career in the art world?

LH: Internships are essential. Work hard, ask questions and keep in touch. A good reference goes a long way.
