Exhibition: 'Warts and All: The Portrait Miniatures of Samuel Cooper'

Tue Nov 12, 2013

Philip Mould & Co. are pleased to announce the opening of a major loan exhibition of works by Samuel Cooper, Britain's first internationally celebrated artist. The show will include portrait miniatures from the Royal Collection, national museums such as the V&A and the Ashmolean, as well as leading private collections.

Highlights will include three of Cooper's life portraits of Oliver Cromwell, which the Protector famously demanded be painted 'warts and all'. The exhibition will also feature a number of new discoveries, including a rare portrait of Cooper himself and a previously unknown likeness of Nell Gwyn, Charles II's mistress.

This ambitious exhibition, the first dedicated to Cooper since 1974, has been curated by Emma Rutherford, portrait miniature specialist at Philip Mould & Co, and will feature over sixty-five portrait miniatures. It opens at the Philip Mould Gallery on 29 Dover Street, London, on 13th November and closes on 7th December.

The exhibition catalogue is available to purchase on Amazon or to purchase direct from the gallery, please contact via email on or telephone 020 7499 6818.
