Exhibition: 'Finding Van Dyck, Newly Discovered and Rarely Seen Works by Van Dyck and His Followers'

Wed Apr 20, 2011

In 2011 Philip Mould & Co held the 'Finding Van Dyck' exhibition, which brought together a collection of recently discovered works by Van Dyck, and placed the artist into an art historical context amidst the works of his contemporaries. The exhibition examined why paintings lose their attribution or identities and in the process become art history’s orphans.

A number of private collectors and national institutions, including Manchester City Art Gallery, loaned pictures for the exhibition which sat alongside several works discovered by Philip Mould & Co. Also included was Van Dyck’s magnificent last self-portrait, painted by the artist shortly before his death and bought by Philip Mould & Co in 2009 and now held by The National Portrait Gallery, London.
