In the second episode of Fake or Fortune's new series, the team investigated a painting purported to be by Tom Roberts (1856-1931), one of Australia's most famous artists... and most faked. The owners, Joe and Rosanna Natoli had already been on an emotional journey before approaching the programme: the couple had spent their savings on the picture only to be told the work was a forgery. Fortunately, they continued to believe the painting was genuine.

Tom Roberts was a key member of the Australian Impressionist school and created some of the most iconic images of rural Australian life. However, Roberts was born in England and studied in London at the Royal Academy of Arts, and in the end it was the artist's British roots that provided the answers the team needed to authenticate the painting.

The happy conclusion to the investigation has been reported in the national press in the UK and Australia, with articles in The Telegraph, The Guardian, ABC News and The Sydney Morning Herald.

The episode is available to watch in full on BBC iplayer here, and the series continues on Sunday 10th September.
