The present work can be ascribed to Evrard on stylistic grounds; particularly reminiscent of his technique are the vibrant colours and careful handling of drapery and texture. Little is known of Evrard, other than he was born in Dinant in Belgium but travelled widely, notably to the courts of Madrid and Vienna. He must have been aware of the work of miniaturists such as Benjamin Arlaud and Christian Richter, as his style shows a close resemblance to their work. A very similar example to the present work can be seen in the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw, dated 1705.
